many of you have contributed to the Knit a river campaign for WaterAid.
Thank you for your contributions. I would like to share a couple of stats with you. We have been amazed by the response to the campaign, we have received over 40,000 squares, many of them from the US.
Much of the river has yet to be sewn together but the dimensions at the moment are very simple. The river is about 7 foot wide. This means that when the the river is complete it will be longer than the Empire State Building is tall. How incredible is that? The river is approximately 1500 feet long, the Empire State Building is just less that 1300 ft.
We are very much looking forward to taking the river out and using it to draw attention to the fact that too many people (over 1 billion) lack access to safe water.

This is just finished this this weekend. It is for my 5 year old cousin Maisie who is kind of like a neice. She is very gorgeous. However, she made her feelings very clear the last time I saw her in Liverpool. From behind an arm chair where she was hiding she told me 'Go away, I don't like beards.' Too bad Masie my love, it's staying. I hope you like your new white cotton cardigan that has been jazzed up with some ladybird buttons.
If you look closely you will see a couple of red wine stains, oops! Her mother will definately not mind; we grew up together and I know she likes a little glass or two so I'm sure she'll understand.
We're flying to NYC on Friday and I can't wait. If anyone is around and wants to join us kniting on Wednesday the 7 March let me know, it'd be great to see you, we are joining a local group called Booze and Yarn at Luca Lounge in the East Village.

I love making these. I've made about six and they only take a couple of hours.
They are so easy but don't look it to most non knitters. People are so grateful and they are also great for covering my ever growing forehead when it gets a little cold in our shop!

I'm in NYC in a couple of weeks and I would love it if any of you guys could give me some tips about yarns stores and where in Manhattan there are knitting groups. I know a few but any extra help is welcome.

I've been awful and selfish this year. I have only bought 2 gifts up to now.
I am learning to crochet and for the past week I have gone treble crazy. I have been crocheting a blanket for myself and I haven't knitted a single thing for a single person!
Although almost everything I have ever knitted has been for someone else I am still feeling the Catholic guilt. will I ever shake it off??? To get over this guilt I am going to carry on with the blanket!

The river is quite massive now. Only a small % of the squares have been sew together. I can't wait til it's all finished and the squares are all sewn up!

does anyone use addi circular needle? I have just started as I've heard so many great things. I an knitting a tea cozy and I quite like using dpn but for this project I thought I'd experiment. I have only done a few rounds but already my thumb is very sore.
Is this just because I am new to addi or are my suspicians correct about the needle being too small.
any help would be appreciated.

Or shoud I say men's night! We've been open 2 weeks and we've only had 1 man so far but I don't care we are committed to having a male knitting group in our great capital. Well, women are welcome but men are the centre of attention for fridays. I think if we persevere we might just make it work.
I wish we could see Chris Vandenberg aand Stckywarp and JPaul and all the rest of you but maybe we might see Ivan The Terrible, with a name like that I really hope so , Ivan I think you might need some DPN.
So, for Fridays, pray for men, London needs them.

Please forgive me for just posting about the knitted river all the time, it's because it's (almost) the biggest thing in my life at the moment.
We have posters available if any one would like one for display in the lys or church hall or anywhere(!). It would be great to have a poster next to every water cooler is the western world.
the poster is also available as pdf but I'd love to send them through the post. If you are interested email your deatils and the amount and I'll get right to it.
