I made a tam from left over Shetland wool for a birthday present. The pattern (Modern Selbu) is free on Ravelry. Jamieson and Smith Shetland wool size 3mm needles.

I made the Bella Botanica Shawl (by Karen Strauss - free download on Ravelry) for a friend of mine here in Morelia. I used Tosh Lace in the colourway "Tart" and 3.75 mm needles. Quick and easy. The top is 84 inches and the depth is 36 inches. It took about 750 yards.

Do you guys block acrylic and if so how? A new great niece/nephew arriving in January and I want to make some things. Or maybe you can direct me to washable wool products. I guess I could use sock yarn.

Have any of you guys used this knot?? I usually use the spit join but am knitting a shawl with Madelinetosh superwash merino and it doesn't felt. My sister-in-law sent me the link.

I spent my time in Canada knitting a shawl for my niece but will block it and gift it in the fall. In between time I knit three pairs of socks. The ones on the left are knit with Zauberball from Germany, the middle with Patons, and the ones on the right with a yarn I bought in Germany a few years ago. All are 80% wool and the rest nylon. Those in the middle are interesting because the first sock of the pair was knit about 5 times. My heroine, Jean, from Scotland has been experimenting with socks and this has fostered quite a discussion on her blog.

Just finished blocking a vest I made using Shetland wool that was left over from other projects. I used a 3.25 mm needle. It was knitted in the round with steeks for the the front and arm holes. I didn't bother securing stitches but just cut the steeks open and picked up stitches for the border. It was a fun and fast knit. I used the Fibonacci Sequence and made a sort of bell curve with 8, 5, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. ......
Sorry the before cutting picture is blurry.

I made another square shawl for a niece. Although I have made lots of these, I find them interesting and relaxing. This one is made with Jamieson and Smith Shetland wool (colourway - Periwinkle) on 4.5mm needles. It measures 68 inches x 68 inches. I finished it with a sideways garter stitch border that I found in my "knitting book" and have no idea where I found it. It is pretty and only an 8 row repeat. I would use it again.

I knit another pair of zauberball socks (2.25mm needles) and had enough left over to make a spring toque on 3 mm needles. I used my mother's recipe for decreasing which is done in about 5 or 6 rows and was able to use up all the yarn. I am going to Canada for a visit and will use this for the cool evenings in the spring.

I have heard much about Signature Needles and would like to ask you guys your opinions. I am interested in a set of 5 sock needles and realize I have a choice of length and also of the type of point. Have you used them? Do you know anyone who has?
OR - what kind of needles do you use. I have tried 3 different kinds of wooden needles and do not like them.
