The KAL pattern finally arrived just in time for me to realize I probably didn't have to buy that second skein. That's alright, who cares that it's in a colorway I normally would avoid? It really is a fun yarn, though, and if I have to make crazy socks later, so be it. At least in this case I won't feel tempted to knit it into a shawl. Thankfully, I think it will look great with a sock yarn that I already have in my stash. I thank Chris for daring me to do something a little out there. I like the stripes on the original, but y'know, I can't just make exactly what is prescribed. Chris kinda dared me to do something a little off the charts. No black and blue for me, boys. To see the colors, you have to check the picture.
The stash yarn is bright blue, and had declared that in avoidance of making me feel like a Smurf, it will not be knit into socks. For a similar sentiment, it will not be a shawl. It also turned out to be not the greatest yarn...not scratchy, but not luxurious, and rather splitty. Something I'm happy to use up, not something I'd bother to knit into socks. Just crappy enough to wear on my backside and still feel good about the overall project. My other option was Malabrigo Sock in the Lettuce colorway, but that idea felt in my mind like using a hundred dollar bill to wipe my butt...though Malabrigo feels darn better than any currency I've had the pleasure to wipe with. I'm currently swatching, and loving the look of the blue.
Can't wait to get the right gauge and move forward on these things!
