My first woven scarf!

What fun!! I got a FL!P rigid heddle loom at stitches - and made this scarf in 5 days - it's woven with a few different types of yarn - all sock yarn size... I LOVE it - have yet to block it (which I think is called wet finishing in weaving) but I had to share...

I look forward to more weaving and learning how to do this better... but for now, this beginner weaver is happy!!!

It's a very nice piece Kyle. I love the subtlety of the colours.

Kyle that is gorgeous! I've wanted a loom ever since my fibers course in college but have never gotten around to getting one. You may have inspired me to finally do it.

I highly recommend this loom - it's the Schacht FLIP rigid heddle loom - comes in a variety of sizes (mine is 20") and it's super easy to use.... I had never even thrown a shuttle before getting this one... and I LOVED making this piece... I look forward to more work on it and sort of want to take a class in college somewhere to work on a big fancy loom too... but that can be later - for now, I'm excited about making scarves again

Thanks Kyle, I think I'll shop around on the web this weekend and see what I can find. I wish I had a birthday coming up, I'd make my husband get it for me - hmm, I wonder if it would fit in an Easter basket.

If it's a woven basket, you can always use it for yarn storage. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Kyle, I know you must get tired or hearing (reading) this, but I am completely gobsmacked that everything you do, you do so incredibly well. Even your selvage edges look neat an even.

is that made by the loom that you made me carry all around california?

It is truly gorgeous.

Can I have the dress form?

kylewilliam's picture

it IS made with that look that you hauled all over creation for me.... (thank you again for that) haha

and no, you can not have my dress form - I love him way too much to ever part with him~ :) -

I will, however, try to remember where I bought it if you wanted to get one.... I know it's from NY and I believe it was around $200 - $250...

Kyle, I love your scarf. Looking at the photo I would never have thought it was sock yarn. It looks much finer. Well done on your first weaving project

Lovely scarf Kyle, makes me wish I had kept weaving after doing a summer school course in it.

Better watch it, Kyle...Remember that Lars started out with just simple rag rugs. Then the weaving bug bit him Really Hard. Just figured it my duty to give you fair warning. That does look like a very nice scarf, though. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Kyle, is this it?

Very reasonable at 250.00 - 275.00.

That's the one - it's amazing :) - and super cute - and really easy to use.

I love the fact that your scarf is WAY more beautiful than the one in and advertisement photo to promote the loom.

Weaving is one of those things I'm trying to avoid... I know if I get my hands on a loom it'll be a whole new obsession for me to deal with... my room is stuffed with enough yarn, fiber, and fabric than I know what to do with!

The scarf is gorgeous... I LOVE the subtle and subdued coloring.

MMario's picture

I hear you - I avoid looms, spindles, wheels.....

MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation

Oh c' know ya waanna!
Is having 2 floor looms, a table loom and a square loom considered obsessed? I guess that's why the "O" in O.C.D.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to.......weave.

michaelpthompson's picture

That's way cool Kyle. I've sometimes thought about weaving in order to make tartan, cuz I can't for the life of me figure out how to knit that. But then I don't really need another obsession, do I?
