I am planning to knit a pair of socks [Quinton would now be saying, "Of course."] but the change is that I'm using a commercial pattern vs. designing my own. [Okay, pick up your jaws - and knitting needles - off the floor.] It's the traveling stitch design from Mountain Colors for the "Jonesy's Toe-up Socks." I'll be knitting from the top-down, adapting the twisted stitch for my lefthandedness, and think it will be nice in the jawoll yarns colorway of muted blues, greens and browns. I used this pattern for a charity pair of socks and really liked it and decided it would be nice to make a pair for myself. I just figured that it would be a change of pace not to have to work out all the logistics for a new pattern. This way, I can just knit. Ought to be fun, based on how the ribbing is knitting up; the yarn is quite nice.

yeah right! not

not adapting...just changing from toe up to top down and from right to left handed...LOL
Well, I guess that I am
Well, I guess that I am technically NOT following the pattern. As it is, there are a few glitches in the pattern as written...Not written for in the round [multiple of 6 + 2 sts] and disjointed directions as to placement of sections of the sock, etc. [Why do I keep running into these things?] Anyhow, I may not have to adapt for handedness after all: The twist isn't coming out as I remembered it. Oh well, early days - I can always rip and restart. I do plan a toe-up, someday, but not this pattern. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

You follow patterns as well
You follow patterns as well as I do Joe. Let's just be honest with ourselves here... I'm sure they will be as beautiful as the rest of your work.
Thank you, Q. It is true
Thank you, Q. It is true that I am only changing them to top-down and using my own preferred heel and toe. The main thing is that I am not designing the decorative pattern. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Oh, it deserved to be
Oh, it deserved to be changed.
I just ordered some Mountain Colors yarn myself to knit a pair of gifts socks for someone, it looks really nice in jpg form....
Their yarns are quite nice.
Their yarns are quite nice. They come up with great colorways and I've found them quite lovely to knit with. Word of warning, though: If there are any reds in the colorway, they may bleed in the wash. I hand wash all my wool socks so it isn't a problem for me and the yarn hasn't faded, but just be aware. As to the pattern, it is a great looking sock - whichever way it is knit - but could be frustrating for a newbie as written. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
