Beware of Alligators!

KenInMaine's picture

One of the more recent projects I've made is another "toy." I like how portable they are to work on since they're mostly done in small parts. And I've become quite fond of the piecing together stage for some reason. Mattress stitch is our friend, after all!

This "cautionary tale" is from a pattern by Katie Boyette from her wonderful book Knitwit. It tells a story of a lady and an alligator with a kind of worst case scenario ending. A little bit of dark humor never hurt anyone, right?

Kids should be exposed to more dark humor. Of course that maybe my twisted sense of humor talking. But i do think the gator is adorable.

And they used to be...before someone decided that exposing them to reality would permenantly warp their lives....

One must remember that the Grimm Brothers wrote for adults. It was only later that the stories were sanitized for children.

Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I love it - it's so macabre! Yes, children are way too sheltered these days - they need to know that their stuffed toys can turn on them.

Great job by the way!!!

Great job with the alligator. You might want to look at Susan Anderson's book "Itty Bitty Toys". I just bought the book. It is filled with some adorable looking animals...Plus there are some very good detailed drawings and descriptions of different stitches, embroidery, and other very useful techniques and tips. It might give you some new things to try on your current and future "toy" projects. Happy knitting and creating...Cullen

Thanks Cullen, I have picked that book up on numerous occasions but haven't actually purchased it yet. But one day it will be mine!
