I'm making a simple slipover in fine wool. I want to do a three needle cast off at the shoulders...the last time I tried to convert a pattern with wraps and turns to do a 3 needle cast off, it never worked quite right. I'm not quite sure which side to start from and whether to work the short rows eary so that the shoulder seem is a continuous row of knitting....hope one of you will understand my ramblings.
The two patterns that I've looked at are in the right gauge for what I'm knitting and I'm not sure which old work better:
Shape shoulder and back neck
Cast off 9 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. (81 sts)
Cast off 9 sts, work until there are 12 sts on RH needles, turn, leave rem sts on holder.
Work each sided separately.
Cast off 4 sts at beginning of next row.
Cast off rem 8 sts.
With RS facing, rejoin yearn to remaining sts, slip centre 39 onto a holder, work to end of row.
Complete to match first side, reversing shaping.
Shape back neck and shoulders
Knit 35 and turn leaving rem sts on holder.
Work each side of neck separately
Dec 1 st at neck edge and at the same time, cast off 10 stitches at at beginning of second and following alternate row.
Cast off remaining 10 sts.
With RS facing, rejoin yarns to remaining sts. Cast off centre 37 and knits to end.
compleqte to match first side, reversing shapings.
ANY IDEAS gratefully received.
