Outerbanks Fiber Guild

I recently had the pleasure of joining this group of EXTREMELY talented fiber artists. I learned about the group from our very own Parrot (Doug) who is also the only other male knitter I have ever met. Since he is the only other male in the group, he is affectionatly known as the guild pimp!

After the business of the meeting was finishd, we were treated to a workshop on spinning on a drop spindle...WOW...what fun. Doug actually handcrafted a spindle for everyone in the group to keep. One of the most talented weavers in the group even commented that these were the best spindles she had ever used, and this lady knows her spindles...GO DOUG!

The best part of the day, however, was enjoying lunch waterside with Doug and talking for hours. I could have (and did actually) stayed all day.

If you ever find yourself in Manteo, North Carolina, be sure to stop by Fine Yarns at Kimbeeba, Sybil Ross's yarn shop. The shop really caters to all things fiber, not just knit and crochet. You must first contact Parrot, however, and let him know you coming. He is the most AWESOME host ever and soooo talented!

WOW Luke! What nice things to say . . THANKS! The OBFG is truly an awesome group of fine, talented fiber artists but is that way because of each of the wonderful people. The first thing that everyone asked when I arrived at the meeting yesterday was, "Will Luke be here?" Everyone is impressed with you and your talents . . not to mention that you bring some of the best goodies to eat . . LOL And, everyone also needs to know that Luke does absolutely beautiful knitting . . showed everyone a very impressive alpaca sweater and socks, both in progress.

The workshop was awesome. I have continued my drop spindle spinning efforts this morning, as well. But, as you have said the highlight of the day was enjoying lunch and chatting with you, enjoying the Springlike day on the deck of Poor Richard's (an awesome, local sandwich shop in Manteo), overlooking the Manteo marina and the NC Festival Park. I hope we can do it again very soon!

What a day . . great weather, a fiber workshop, Sybil's yarn shop (Fine Yarns at Kimbeeba), and sharing lunch and friendship on the waterfront. It doesn't get much better that!

A commercial plug here .. anyone wanting to visit Manteo, NC (on the Outer Banks of NC) . . Sybil Ross not only owns one of the finest yarn (fiber) shops you will ever visit anywhere, but she also owns and runs a fantastic waterfront B & B, The Inn at Kimbeeba, Manteo, NC (www.kimbeeba.com). Combine an Outer Banks getaway with your love for fiber. She even has a fiber studio and weaving looms in the Inn.
