Second Beanie Finished

The first beanie I gave away. I swore the second one I would keep but it probably will not be. The first one was too "long" so I thought I would shorten the rounds. Well....correct me if I am wrong but Fair Isle-esque knitting makes it tighter. So this one is not comfortable and I think I shortened too many rounds.

I guess I will start another one on a #8.

Thanks to all for your help with my questions.

Uncomfortable or not it is still a very nice looking hat. A few more hats and your gauge with stranded knitting will be as good as your gauge in single colour work.

Very nice indeed - I wish my second attempts would look so good.

Hey Rob,

I think Fair Isle does tend to be a little tighter than straight knitting, but the biggest culprit I think for me was not knitting loosely enough and causing the stranding to be too tight and pulling the stitches together. I think as I got more comfortable with it, it got better.

Way to go Rob!! Nice work, man!

You are doing fantastic new things! Good for you! Each piece that I knit (even after 30+ years) teaches me something new and I find that I follow Elizabeth Zimmerman's philosophy more and more of just trying new things to see how they work. You are becoming the MAD HATTER now, LOL, and will soon be designing wonderful new creations. Way To Go!

Great looking hat: i have found that when you do colour work in the round it seems to tighten the work , go up half a needle size.

Have been knitting for years. I knit continually then will try another craft, but will return to the needles.
