inspired by Terry Pratchett's Discworld - here is BS Johnson's "Shawl for Mumsie" aka the 'Boomerang Shawl'
This produces a trianglur-ish shawl - twice as wide for the depth as most triangular shawls.

Tom, as usual, I haven't knit it yet. But I do have a simple model of it posted over at M2K2

Dear Wise One of Lace, I
Dear Wise One of Lace,
I have printed out both patterns to peruse and am finding the key for CCIIRRCCLLEE missing. I think I can figure out the rather odd symbology...A = Sl1, k2t, psso......N = k2t. I know that with your great experience you don't need me to question you but why not just use \ / and ^...they are on the keyboard and make life somewhat easier (that is if my decoding is correct).
Also row 2 of the edging, I think, has a typo but not sure what it is.
2) K2, p1, k2, p1, k4, p5, k2, p5, p2, K9---I think there maybe a missing k(x) in there between p5, p2?
Actually I'm not seeing what to do with the OO from the row 1 either...maybe I need to get out th eneedles and cast on and see what is going on.

grin - that's what I get for
grin - that's what I get for posting a pattern I wrote up in 15 minutes. I'll take a gander at it tomorrow and make the corrections.
Some of my terminology is from learning lace from books published in the 1800's. Also I am lazy and N is much easier to type the K2tog. People don't like it when you use / and \ in written instructions - and I use A for the double decrease because sometimes it is "a" instead - which means a double decrease except on first or last repeat.....
see? there is

Thank you, BTW. Key is now added; and the typo on the edging corrected.
If you look at line 2 you will see the "p1"'s fall on the second YO of the pairs; so you are doing a k1, p1 into the double loop.

I'm knitting the boomerang -
I'm knitting the boomerang - slowly; just a couple of rows now and then when I need to clear my head. If it were any simpler it would be unshaped garter stitch - but the novelty of the shape is keeping me amused. (Ture. I am easily amused)
However - I ignored my own advice regarding curling - so will have to add a border when I am done the basic.
Shame on me!
