Project suggestions

My SO has decreed that I must make a lap-blanket. That is all well, and good, but I have no idea where to start. I need a pattern, something that is a little more than a simple garter stitch rectangle (I am not looking to lose my mind), but it needs to be relatively light. See, we live in North Texas, so the days that this item is really needed will be limited, so if it is light, it will be more useable.

I saw Jared Flood's Hemlock Ring Blanket, and while it is a beautiful project, it is not something that I am ready to tackle (maybe in a couple of years).

I think that I may have something that would work....

I first made it as a baby blanket and then My mom started to make a bigger sized one for my dad. It's lightweight, works with any yarns, easily adaptable, looks great with solid colors or variegated yarns and can be easily made to whatever size you want. I got the pattern from a friend and if you like it (also easy to try out a quick swatch) then let me know and I will forward the pattern on to you. It's lacy, but not overly so and has the nice chevron bit to it. Very easy to memorize.

I would like to suggest looking up "Prayer Shaw pattern" on the internet, churches make the rectangular "Prayer Shaw" all the time and you can find some that are fairly elaborate.
This one from lion brand is probably too simple; but the nice thing is that they're wide enough so two people can use it at the same time, or fold in half for extra warmth (or kneeling softness :-) .
