Fair Isle Anyone

I've always been intrigued by, but never tried Fair Isle Knitting. That is until I saw this picture at men.style.com. Somehow this kind of killed the intrigue - but it might be an inspiration for others.

It reminds me of Little Dennis from Auntie Mame who was so excited to finally be old enough to wear long pants...

I've just got back from a skiing trip in Central Turkey ... and I thought my ensemble was bad... khaki army trousers, cycling gloves, cycling sunglasses, ... a ski hat...and a winter jacket... fortunately it was too cold to rain... and the slopes were beautifully groomed so didn't fall over ... well, only when I ventured into the powder... I was certainly not a snow bunny ... but there were certainly some interesting outfits out there ...maybe I should have worn on the slopesthis outfit that the lovely gentleman is wearing ...

He still looks good in spite of the outfit. Fair isle is a pattern...patterns should be paired with solids...please. Wow.

It just proves the old adage that just because it's High Fashion, it isn't necessarily nice. The big thing is that the fabric was probably whipped up on a knitting machine that was computer controlled. I cannot see any self respecting knitter submitting another human being to that mess. Individual aspects are okay but the overall package is WAY too much. Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

If I had to wear that, I'd look as surly as he does.
