I got this done a week and half ago and am still just stoaked about it. I find myself just wanting to pet it. It is a birthday present for my mom who's birthday is still about a month away so I'm sitting on it for a bit before I put it in the mail to send back home to Alaska.
I currently have another shawl on the needles that I'm taking a break from. It's just to hot here in the summer to have a large piece of knit work on your lap. It's from the same book "Folk Shawls" by Cheryl Oberlie. I just really wanted to make ti, and was considering making it for my mom, but I realized it would be an other piece that her comment would be, "It's just like your cooking son, sometimes it's just to 'ethnic' for me." So that is going to go to Bob's sister who has MS and is quite often cold. If you're familiar with the book, it's the "Ruana".
This piece here is the Aran Pocket Shawl. It's actually quite an easy pattern once you get it down. Believe it or not, I have never really used moss stitch, and though I'm tired of it for now, really like how supple it it, and how it lies. I imagein I'll be incorporating it more into my knitting. The plaid design here's only hard spot is when you are on a row where the 'weaving' appearance is used, and you're on the backside of the work. You have to do quite a bit of looking over the top of your needles, and even then, I found I occasionally had to tear back a row or two.

[img_assist|nid=9351|title=Clasps|desc=I found these ata local bead shop. They're meant for a bracelet's clasp, but they were too beautiful for me to pass up. They just went so well up against the interweaving of tis shaws stitchwork. Now let's just pray she does too.|link=popup|align=center|width=150|height=200]
