I have never made a shawl before, so I thought I'd give it a try. I decided to go with sock yarn because my 90-year-old mom is small in stature and I thought that the smaller stitching would look good on her. I did use size US8 needles, so the stitching isn't as tight, obviously, as it would be on a sock. I'll save that for another day or year! The yarn I am using is Stroll Fingering from Knit Picks, 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% nylon. The pattern calls for 435 yards, so I bough 2 balls of 50g/231yds.
I would be interested in organizing a Christmas scarf exchange if we could find at least 10 guys who were interested.
I have a friend who, because of serious infections resulting from heart bypass surgery in January that never healed, underwent leg amputation above the knee yesterday. He's 81 years old and he's a wonderful person. I thought I'd make him what is called a stump sock...yes it sounds crass, but he's okay with it. He won't ever have a prosthesis because of his age, overall health, and his f*cked up insurance company who dropped him, so now he is a ward of the State of Florida as a Medicaid patient.
Well I made this cardigan for my mum on my "new" Passap DM80 machine. It is not really new but secondhand. Passap machines haven't been made for over 20 years. I brought it off a old lady who no longer had the need for it.
Being a double bed machine it can do ribbing without any hand manipulation so quicker to knit. Also can do a lot of patterns. It also does k:k stitch which is knit stitch on both sides of garment ( no purl side).
Any men who knit in Columbia, SC or the surrounding area?
I can't believe it's been this long since I've visited. I like what you guys have done to the place. Finally realized that I've been way to busy and it's time to slow down and pick up those needles once again. I wonder if I still remember to turn a heel. Heck, I'm wondering if I remember how to cast on. Anyway, good to be back.
Hello find this Men ´Bathing suit ano 1938 on the net and make me one
so nice to wear. smile
It's been a very long time since I posted to MWK, although I have stopped by occasionally to see what all the guys have been up to. However, I see others are not posting either! I have a story to tell you about repurposing some yarn.
Shows how long it's been since I logged on. Heck, I had to change my location though it's been 2+ years since we moved. The site looks very different, but I still see the old faces that I love. I hope you've all been well in my absence and thank you Darrel for carrying this site onwards and upwards.
I think knitting is a terrific way to relax. Would love to find other guys in the Southeast Michigan (Detroit, Ann Arbor) area who would like to get together and knit. It would be great to have some good conversation partners while working on projects. Hope guys will message me if you are in my area and interested!
