Picot-edge face mitt

Behold my latest creation: The Picot-edge Face Mitt!

check out what I made!

This was knitted in the round on #4 DPNs using Millefili Fine, the first "pricey" yarn I've ever bought, a souvenir of my June excursion to New York and my first visit to Knit New York, a great knit café with an awesome staff.

The Face Mitt is a gift for my cousin and best friend, Beth, who plays Grace to my Will and always lets me stay with her when I visit New York.  It builds upon a new skill for me, changing colors mid-stream, while adding a new one, the picot bind-off.  I need a little more work on that technique, but this first attempt turned out rather well, if I do say so myself.  Please be sure to look at the detail and check out my work.

It seemed to take forever to complete, partly because I started a new job and don't have the time to devote to knitting as when I was unemployed and partly because of the tiny little stitches.  By my calculations, there are 6,400 stitches in this little 8.5" x 5.5" project, and that's not including the picot bind-off!  Each round is 80 stitches, 10 rounds per band of color.

The idea came to me as I was visiting a little yarn shop in the village of Hamburg, PA.  I'd like to give a shout-out to her little store (Yarns R Us, 41 S. 4th St., Hamburg PA, (610) 562-5629) because although her shop was oh-so-humble, she had a great selection, had exactly what I needed (penguin supplies, photos of a completed penguin pending) and was super-duper helpful.  She had a really nice face cloth that she had knitted from similar yarn, although knitted flat and on larger needles.  I was wondering what to do with this cool-ass yarn I bought and I found the perfect project for it.

My cousin is a real girly-girl who takes great pride in her appearance.  Her bathroom is littered with toiletries and beauty supplies.  I'm sure the face mitt will figure in to her daily ritual and I can't wait to present it to her.

You BE da MAN!  Nice job.  Very professional and I love the colors.  Same colors as my Alma Mater:  Canary & Wine.  At least, that's what it looks like from my office . . .

Really nice, Guy!
