Ripping back the back

I've been having a blast designing my own, totally one-of-a-kind sweater vest. I'm currently working on adding a shawl collar...only problem is that a lovely hunch-back shape is appearing where I had added two short rows above the cable on the back. I had intended to be smart and give the shoulders some shaping, but instead I will regret it if I don't fix it.

Any suggestions for fixing it, short of ripping out the collar, the shoulder seams, and the upper back?

EDIT: I got a friend to help me take pics with the collar progressing...maybe it's not as bad as I thought. I think when the collar was young and fresh, he didn't truly fold yet and would push the neckline down. Now that he is a growing boy, he seems more flexible and able to bend over into the needed position.

Haven't a clue, but I sure like what you've done so far!

Are you knitting with wool? If so, blocking can remove a lot of things. Golly, your collar looks good.

Willy, the new pictures look good...why not try blocking before you rip?

Funny...I was feeling better after the new pics. My friend and photographer just was saying the same thing.
I've never steam blocked before. Do you have to let it dry for a bit?
Or do you just lay it down, wave a steam iron above it, and flip and repeat?

you can aim some steam at it...pat it to smooth it out..then steam again and let it dry. Don't move it while it's damp, or it will stretch. It's really much easier and simpler than it sounds...

Fantastic! Thank you! Isn't that the way with much in knitting? It helps to hear that.

Mad cables! I love it! As for the collar, blocking can "fix" a lot. Keep it going!

It looks great- I can't see any problem in the pictures! Beautiful design!

Looks good on the back, can't tell much about the front from the photos. I really like that cabling effect in the back. It's almost tattoo like. Really cool design.

why are we always so critical of our own work. Looks amazing!

Sounds like you've worked out the problem, Willy. I had a similar issue with the first incarnation of the shawl collared baby sweater I designed but the actual wearing took care of that as it smoothed out over the nape of the neck and the shoulder slope. Great looking knitting, tempting me to put some cabling into the next one I do. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
