Well, thanks to the inspiration of my fellow (pun intended) knitters, I'm starting a new project. In the process, I discovered that Cascade 220 and my Ultimate Sweater Machine do not get along well. I guess it just splits too much. Tried and tried, but I just couldn't make much progress. My daughter has such a really nice scarf made of a similar wool that she got in Donegal, Ireland, and it's just stockinette stitch, so I figured it would be a perfect project for the machine. Finally gave up and decided to put it on the hand needles instead.
I've heard such good things about the Irish Hiking Scarf, and it seemed like a good first cable project, but I've also heard even nicer things about a reversible version called the Palindrome Scarf that I decided to do this one instead.
I'm still learning as I go, and ripped out and started over again after I messed up a couple of the cables and dropped a stitch but didn't discover it until several rows later. Probably could have rescued the dropped stitch, but I decided to use that as a learning experience and see if I could do better. Got one cable and a little bit done now. Here's a photo:
I keep remembering TallGuy telling me it's all just one stitch at a time, which is definitely helping. Thanks to all of you for the inspiration. I'll keep you posted.
