Well, something else has been taking away from my knitting time lately; a new mandolin. Well, actually it's an old mandolin, but new to me. His name is Lyle and he's a bowlback mandolin from 80 or 90 years ago. Check out my blog on the Mandolin Café Forum to find out more, including why he's called Lyle.
As I said, Lyle is a bowlback, also known as a tater bug or Neapolitan mandolin. So far, he's spent most of the time on my kitchen table in various stages of reconstruction, but I'm hoping he'll be ready to go out soon, and when he does, he'll need some protection.
Of course, knitting a case is the first thing that comes to mind. I'm thinking of felting, but have no idea how to account for the bowl or what kind of fastening to use. They're usually zipped. So anyway, I'm looking for any ideas or suggestions from my faithful knitting companions.
