It's been a long time since I've posted anything. In fact, I think the last time was when I finished the baby blanket for my soon-to-be-born niece. Well, Lorelei has since been born and will turn one in August.
Since finishing the blanket I have not gotten much knitting done. This past year in school was quite exasperating, leaving little time or intrest for working on knitted projects. As soon as I finished the blanket I started a sock which I didn't finish until the drive to Mesilla Park, NM for Thanksgiving. The sock didn't come out the way I had hoped. For one, it wasn't as long as I had wanted it to be, and two, the pattern design had no heel on it (which at first was okay for me because I didn't want to have to turn a heel) but with no heel in the sock it just didn't seem to fit right. Furthermore, the sock without a heel looks kind of like a knitted snake... or a knitted something. Some of my fellow students in formation got a good laugh when I finished it on the car ride. I haven't started the second sock in the pair yet, so I'm not displaying a photo of it.
After the sock I began working on a hat. I wanted to do something different, so I tweaked my stocking cap pattern with some cables. Again, I didn't really like the way it came out. It seemed a little bulky to me. And the colors I chose... I thought the paprika and the painted desert colors would go very well together, which in a way they do. However, to me it looks like the Miami Sound Machine blew up on it. I call it the fiesta hat, and I don't think the person I gave it to is going to wear it much.
Finally, the last thing I knitted is a little bunny toy for my niece's birthday. It is the first toy i've ever made, so it is a first for stuffing, embroidering, and sewing knitted pieces together. It was a lot more work than the pattern seemed to imply, and the whole project was kind of a pain, but it was a labor of love. It actually came out better than I thought it would, so I'm quite proud of it.
Well, that's it for now. I'm also working of a scarf in ribbing which will keep me occupied. Maybe this year I can get more knitting done. We'll see.
