The Maggie Seaman's Scarf

This was my first lace work. The picture is prior to blocking. The scarf was designed by Myrna A.I. Stahman, a knit designer who lives in Boise, Idaho. Myrna asked me to knit this piece as part of a memorial project for the coach of the women's army basketball team, who died suddenly in April, 2006. Scarves were knit by many people and sent to the team members in rememberance of their coach.

I like this scarf, especially the design of the narrower ribbed part that goes around the neck. That looks like it would wear more comfortably.

My knitting is totally tubular!

The central ribbed section is the main design feature of a Seaman's scarf.

Very interesting - I didn't know that. I think it's a neat feature.

gorgeous scarf - what kind of yarn did you use? It looks like some sort of mohair? Kyle

The yarn was Blue Sky Alpacas sport weight. Sorry, will make sure I put that in future posts.

Prima!

Really excellent. I want the recipe! AND: I want a pic of it after you dress it. Will you block it without mercy or just barely tease it into shape? I'd love to see it Tortured to the Max . . . but, then, that's just me. . . ahem. . . . .

I actually don't have a picture of it dressed out. Myrna likes to do that part, and I didn't get a chance to see it prior to being shipped off to the team. As far as the recipie, I will see what I can do. The pattern can be given for free, but Myrna has some conditions for that. I'm out of town at the moment, but when I get back will get it together for you.
