Felted Messenger Bag

I started the felted messenger bag from knitty.com:

and I'm nearly through with the body of it - I just realized last night (in a sweat and panic) that I was supposed to use TWO strands of yarn together - I used only ONE - (the gauge swatch that I didn't do said that gauge was determined using size 13 needles, and two strands of yarn held together) - but the directions just said "cast on 52 stitches" (or something like that) - boo - I was wondering what you guys thought - do you think it'll still turn out like a messenger bag or not? Opinions?

I am going to finish it either way (using just single strand like I have been) - and I'll let you know what it looks like. I'll probably use 2 strands together for the strap to make it more stable...

I'm curious, and frustrated at the same time - I plan to modify this pattern some and make more of these, so it's not a total loss...

will probably be okay - it may felt a bit smaller - or it may just felt *THINNER*; but it should felt USABLE

MMario - I don't live in the 21st Century - but I sometimes play a character who does.

MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation

It should still be quiet usable, but will felt "thinner" than expected. Several of my friends knit with the single yarnn for purses and wallets and they turn out fine. The thicker felt will just give extra body and strength as a messenger bag.

I remember making this bag. it was a fun project! My only critique of the pattern is that it instructs you to sew the strap on after it's all felted. I would have attached the strap or knit it onto the bag first. Sewing it on afterwards seems like it's going to be a pain (I made it months ago and still haven't actually finished it!). I will, someday, and I will make sure to attach the strap before felting if I make another one.

I am actually thinking of making the strap longer and using it as reinforcement around the entire inside of the bag - sewing it through and all the way around - then felting it and lastly having reinforced stitching on the base, etc. .... I don't know what it'll look like when (if) it ever gets done - but I am gonna finish it! I'll let you guys know when I do!

I am doing the same bag, and was wondering what would happen if I used one strand instead of two.

Please be sure to let us know how it turns out.

I also thought it might be interesting to combine it with the inner tube shoulderstrap idea from MenKnit.net, but wanted to do one according to pattern first.
