Vest Patern

Hello All.

I just turned the heal on one sock and am already looking forward to my next project. (cause I don’t have enough yarn in my stash as it is) I was in Seaport Yarns with my girlf and her mother and saw a very nice vest pattern that I may get at some point.

My question is this: who amongst us has knit a vest; was it "fun", satisfying or boring; what pattern did you use/not use and would you recommend the project?

Thanks for your help in advance

BTW: Seaport Yarns is an astounding place, if you get the chance to go I can only recommend it. Just remember to bring cash or check, they do not accept credit cards. BK

I'm a little over half done with a button-up vest (back panel and part of one front) and I'm still enjoying it. What I like about vests is that they're like a sweater but without having to do the sleeves, which usually involve as much work as the body pieces. I probably could have been done by now, but I like working with fingering-weight yarn rather than the bulky stuff that the designers seem to think all men want. Plus, the pattern is a cable rib that involves a zillion crosses every 4th row, so it slows me down a little.

If you enjoy wearing vests, I'd encourage you to go ahead. As I said, it's similar to making a sweater but half the work.

I'm not going to be a big help here, unfortunately. But if you do find a good pattern for a vest, let me know. I have a heavy-worsted yarn (Korall Fancy by Laines du Nord) that is just itching to be made into a vest. But I can't find a pattern that will match my gauge swatch: 4 stitches per inch on size 9 needles. I'm too lazy to adapt patterns. I have a solid color for the ribbing, and want to make a pullover vest without a button-up middle. Anyway, I thought I'd toss it out. How's that for answering a question with a question?

I made this vest from Berroco

It was fun to make but I made some adjustments. I knitted it in the round and added a different color stripe in the middle to break the color monotony.

I'm currently working on the Peter Easy vest from Beroco. It's fun and easy, as the name suggests, but it's a lot of straight knitting and gets a bit tedious, so have an alternate project to spell you off.

Good luck!
