Rant and Tip for Argyle

KilgoreTrout's picture

I *finally* finished the front pattern to my new argyle sweater-vest.... and I must say it was the most frustrating knitting project I've ever attempted! I had a total of 9 Bobbins hanging from my work and they were constantly tangled! I managed to get through it, but heres a word to the wise: Take the time to organise your bobbins every row or two to save yourself the trouble of undoing knots. I think I spent more time untying the bobbins than I did knitting! Heres a preview...its actually just my swatch...

Ok update. The foto is now up, but I have other news too.... I was working on the panel intermittently and now that its done and I've measured it....its tooo big! NOOO! Almost 2 inches too wide, I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I may just have to rip if I ever want to wear this thing..... *sigh* live and learn!

I'm first generation American from the Scottish parents, grandparents, generations back, etc. etc. etc.

I envy ANYONE who can do a nice Argyle...

I can't (or actually "won't" is a better word) -- hmmm...does that make me a bad Scot?

It might make you a bad Campbell - but not a bad Scot.

MMario - Can anybody tell me what year it is?

Well I won't take Argyle so lightly anymore, it was quite a challenge!

I'm sorry to hear about the fit. My knitting is very consistent except when it comes to stranded (not unlike picture) knitting. Then, it ends up either too large or too small. I have to measure and remeasure as I knit up the garment and change needles along the way to get a proper gauge. The swatch and the fabric have nothing in common when it comes to gauge. I know what you're talking about here! Now, 2" too wide for me wouldn't present any kind of problem but you look pretty skinny...
