Another Quick and Easy Hat

I made this easy, comfortable hat in about 2 1/2 hours last night and this morning. I decided to cut off all my hair yesterday morning and the temperatures finally started dropping a bit here in Southwest Florida. I drive a convertible and like to have the top down in the mornings when I go to work but my ears get cold (57-60 degrees F) without the hair, LOL. It's nice to be able to make a project in wool that I can actually use myself here in the deep South.

I found the free pattern here:

I knitted this in Lion Brand Wool in "Lemongrass" on a set of 5 Clover Takumi Bamboo Premium DP needles (US 8/5.0 mm) and used a Red Heart "Crystalites" crochet hook (US H/5.0 mm) which works really well with worsted weight wool.

It is a fun, easy project for a beginning knitter and would also be a quick but attractive gift for the holidays.

Thanks gardenguy....I was thinking, before I tackle lace...I should tackle a hat. A pattern was what I was looking for! It is nice...

Cool hat, but the crochet brim would be the death of me. I just can't wrap my brain around crochet, and I have tried, even took a class. I think after too many years of being an experienced knitter, the "novice" level frustrated me.

Have to admit your comment on it "being cold when you go to work (57 60 degrees F)" was amusing. As one of those warm blooded Yankees, I consider that positively balmy. That's shorts with a sweater or denim jacket for us. Right now it's 47 degrees F. The furnace has been on all week and I think I'm coming down with my first cold of the season. :(

60F is cold?? *sheesh*

Just to let you know that it is about 0C this morning (freezing point for you 'muricans) and the ground is covered with nice white fluffy stuff when I looked out the window at 6 this morning. Looks so purty!

--- until I have to go out, that is.
(isn't Lion Brand "Wool" a misnomer??)

Yeah, I know that you Northerners laugh at us thin-blooded Southerners >> but when it's normally in the 90s during the days and lower 80s nights, a drop to 60 sends shivers down your sun-crisped spine, LOL.

And no, Lion Brand Wool is not a misnomer; it is from their new felting line and is 100% wool. It has a nice hand and isn't too expensive here -- about $5 (US) for a 3 oz/ 85 G/ 158 yards skein. I keep several skeins around for quick little projects like this hat. The color selection is pretty nice too. I save my expensive Merino stash for more important projects. This hat took a little over half the skein. Nice cheap hat that looks pretty cool -- a win/win for me!

And thanks for the compliments guys!
