I whipped up this beanie on the fly just trying out some stitch patterns to create the effect I wanted to make my mother a hat for Christmas. After some trial and error I finally got what I was looking for.
Wonderful. I like it very much. Great job!

Very Cool! You like like a "bad ass" even in a lacy white beanie!!
Love the beanie! when I saw it, I thought "there's a man you don't wanna make mad, lace beanie or not!"

I like it!! A lot... what's the basic pattern? Looks fairly flat on top... how did you decrease?
Thanks. To get the flattened swirl top I did a pretty severe decrease pattern, 8 SSK decreases, a knit round, 8 SSK decreases, etc. until it was down to just 8 stitches.
Looks good...............great job of experimenting. Please share the pattern you devised!
Thanks. I posted the pattern on my knitting blog as well as on Ravelry.
Great hat. I always admire you guys who say things like "I whipped this up on the fly" or "trying out stitch patterns, I came up with this" and such like things. I can knit with a pattern decently enough but I lack the confidence to do anything on the fly. I just know I will end up with a misshappen wash cloth.
Thanks. I think experimenting with different things is a huge part of the fun.
Mason...I can't believe how accomplished a knitter you've become ...in such a short time!!!
...I think part of it is your fearlessness to try anything...
Thanks. No need to be scared of trying new stuff.
