Scandinavian Knitting Designs by Pauline Chatterton; 1977; soft cover; 264 pages; out of print.
I recently obtained this book on stranded knitting patterns. Contrary to the book’s title, these patterns are from the Scandinavian mainland as well as for the Shetland Islands, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. There are 159 different patterns as well as instructions for sweater, afghans, pillows and scarves. There is also a short chapter on the history of this type of knitting style.
As can be seen from the photos, this is really just a book of different stranded patterns. Typical of books from this time, there are very few colour photos; almost everything is black and white. But, it still is a valuable resource book if one is looking for different patterns for stranded work. These are still readily available for little money and I can recommend it if you can source it on the cheap.
