You know, I love this method of learning. I try to impress on my students that it's okay to make mistakes in math.
Well, it's even better when it happens to the teacher. So, the first big revelation, chunky yarn is cool but a pain to work with. Second, use bigger needles with bigger yarn (not sure if this is a rule-of-thumb). Third, knitting brings out more of my redneck upbringing, in that the stream of expletives coming from my mouth has grown exponentially.
Being a newbie, I started with a scarf. It's almost done. Not bad for a first try but the knowledge gained, invaluable.
