The Tao of Frou

Kenny's picture

This is one boy's attempt at the art of randomness.

I actually tried the random number generator thingy, and while it works great for the stripping, it doesn't work so great with yarn combination.

I feel that even as random as things need to be, there has to be some method to the madness of randometry (is that even a word? Probably not.

Knitting needs to have some human involvement infused into it. The feel of 2 yarns held together, the feel of gauge when 2 yarns are held together, the complimentary factor between 2 novelties, the color progression. While all this DOES NOT seem random, it is somewhat random in the sense that I am following my heart and gut.

Is that random? The randomness that I can attribute to this project is shade progression...... I never know what shade I'm going on to next. It all depends on what my hand reaches into the bags for. And another random thing that happens is when to change yarns. Here is the greatest challenge I have, is to follow my heart and let it transpire to my fingers, to my touch and let it go into the universe.

How do you all thing I did so far?

What I see so far, I don't know about randomnessw - but looks good.
MMario - ambiguity is cultivated, it doesn't happen in a vacuum!

MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation

It has a Mardi Gras feel to it- I love it! (I'm a sucker for color).

I was thinking the exact same thing and then I saw your post. We must think alike, Oh no... tell me it's not true! ;-)

I *LOVE*using mixed colours, yarns, textures...and find it helps to have one yarn that continues through everything...(yes, knitting with two strands) ties the colours together...

I like it! The different colors and textures add a lot of visual appeal.

It sort of reminds me of a crazy quilt, in spirit at least. They were sort of a planned randomness if you get what I mean. I'm way too self conscious for this type of exersize - my brain will always try to second guess my heart and my heart fights back and it all ends in despair. :( It's the curse of being a Libra with right brain, left brain equality.
I like what you've done so far what will the end result be?

wonderful imagery, interesting... sometimes, when i have no idea what to do. i pick up some needles and a ball of yarn and knit with no INTENTION of "making" anything. i just follow my hands. I mix yarns and i play with different textures mixed together. i like your "randomness." more people should employ this aleatoric, unpredictable style. definitely art well attempted. keep it up and if you do you'll end up knitting with camera straps, cables, and kelp :) you'll be the next judy chicago without all that vagina.
