Here I am again with another shawl from Cheryl Oberle's "Folk Shawls". This time I am making a shawl for my wife, one of her choice of color and style. She choose a Cotton/Modal blend from Knit Picks in Hydrangea. When my wife chose the pattern she did not know I was testing out the same pattern in "The Knitting Directory" by Alison Jenkins, Zigzag eyelet.
This is my first attempt at a "provisional cast-on" or "invisible cast-on" as references in Cheryl's book. I found the method in her book awkward, attempting to use both a knitting needle and crochet hook at the same time. I trolled the internet and found a third method, which uses a scrap yarn to anchor the working stitches on to. I made several test attempts using that method with moderate success. I ended up wrapping a scrap piece of yarn around the needle and knitted onto it.
I am currently onto my 3rd ball of yarn and work is going quickly on US #10 circular needles.
Til next time
