Snail Hat for Dulaan Project

Snail Hat

This is Elizabeth Zimmermann's snail hat (with some minor modifications) made with two strands of Reynolds Lopi knit together. The green looked like ass on its own, but it works well with the blue heather. It's going to be sent to the Dulaan Project to help keep a Mongolian child warm.

Awesome hat.....was it difficult? Love the color combo but the shape is the best! Thanks for sharing!!!

Is that pattern online or in a book? That is WAY cool....

It's in Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting Without Tears and is also way easy. The gauge is 2.5 st/in, so it's a very quick project, and the patterning is pretty easy to remember. EZ didn't really write about finishing up the top, so I put some technical notes about how I did it on my blog.

Hi there,

Not only a great looking hat but aslo a great looking piece of art.

Keep up the great work.

Happy Knitting Craig.

Have been knitting for years. I knit continually then will try another craft, but will return to the needles.

Okay.  My hubby, the German teacher, just told that this would be called a "schneckenmuetze" (shnekenmutsa - snail hat.)  I thought that was almost as cute as the hat is and just had to share!

I am totally addicted to making hats with the Reynolds Lopi.  Your creation is a masterpiece!

That is an exceptional piece of knitting - both art and craft at the same time!  I like the colours, too.  Congratulations on a beautiful hat!

I've got knitting fever in the worsted way.
