Men's Fall Knitting Retreat

The Men’s Spring Knitting Retreat that was held in NY sounded like a blast and I’m bummed I couldn’t be there.

So, I’m wondering interest there is in having a west coast Men’s Fall Knitting Retreat (MFKR). I would be willing to spearhead it if there are one or two of you other guys are willing to help. I have talked with QueerJoe and he is willing to lend some experienced advice.

I am thinking about either Oct 10-12 or Oct 17-19. There is a hot springs in the mountains east of Salem, OR called Breitenbush Hot Springs ( , check it out) where they also have a conference center. It is a 2-3 hour drive from the Portland airport. Cost would be the price of accommodations.

If you are interested in attending, comment here. If you are interested in helping to set up the MFKR, comment here and also send me a private message. I am posting this on MWK and on Ravelry in the MWK and Bear forums.

If a sufficient number of people are interested, I will set up a poll on the MWK site to get an idea of the number of men interested and which dates are preferable, then contact the folks at Breitenbush to see if they can accommodate us and what the cost would be.

Controversial people are special people and I am a very special person.

I did not know about it until about 1 week before it was to take place. I have been trying to raise interest in a retreat here in Florida but not may positive responses. I guess the bummed out economy and high costs of transportation has created a damper for most of us. With so many guys in San Francisco and LA have you considered maybe the Russian River Area for a broad appeal west coast conference. My partner and I are going to San Francisco Aug 23-September 8 so that would eliminate another West Coast trip for us in October.

It is interesting that you work for hospice as I managed the pharmacy at the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast for 2 years in 1996 to 1998. I learned so much about practical patient care and especially pain management. My partner ended up working in the same hospice for 10 years in Medical Records and just retired last June.

I'd love to go but it all depends on my school calendar. I'll know more at the end of August.
