The pattern for the Rainy Day Scarf can be found at http://yarndemon.googlepages.com/rainydayscarf. I don't remember exactly the yarn that I used, only that is was a large 6-ounce skein (I believe) that I found at Wal-Mart. I bought two of them to make knee-high socks for my boss's girlfriend. (He repaid me by fixing the brakes on my car!)
For the hat, I just made up the pattern as follows:
Using Size 8 needles, cast on 84 stitches. Work in Rainy Day pattern Rows 1 to 32 and then repeat Rows 1 to 20. Now begin shaping the crown as follows:
Crown Row 1: K2tog, p2 across.
Crown Row 2: K the knit sts, and P the purl sts across.
Crown Row 3: K1, P2tog across.
Crown Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Crown Row 5: K2tog, p2tog across.
Crown Row 6: Rep Row 2.
Thread yarn through rem 14 sts and draw tight. Sew side seam.
Simple, fabulous, and eminently enjoyable!
