MMario's Faux Spanish Lace Shawl

Tah-Dah! A mere 10 hours before my flight out to Colorado to attend my cousin's wedding... her shawl is complete! I must say, I am even happier with this one than my first. The lace weight alpaca-silk makes this an angel-like garment.

This is MMario's Faux Spanish Lace Shawl done in "Fino" the lace weight alpaca-silk blend from Alpaca With A Twist on size US 6 Addi Turbo Lace needles . It blocked out to be about 76" wide at the top and about 39" to the point. The colorway is a varigated green ranging from a silvery-sage to forest with a touch of brown. My cousin saw it when she was in town last week and said she loved it... preferring it over the embroidered bolero jacket that came with her silvery-sage colored wedding dress. So, she is wearing the shawl instead. I offered her various options for embellishment, if she so desired, and she elected to have green-gold freshwater pearls attached about every other pattern set. The shawl alone was so light and airy... truly amazing, but without the weight to drape well for a moutaintop wedding... the pearls effectively double the weight of the shawl.

Many of you have seen the pictures of my blocking table with the battleship gray pads. I could have died after knitting this up so intently in just 3 weeks to see it blocked out... and looking for all the world like a camoflage lace shawl!! The colorway against the gray looked like something right out of "My Big Fat Redneck Wedding." My partner talked me down and assured me that once it is on my cousin and her silver-sagey wedding dress that all would be well in the world!! I had to laugh.

Additionally, on, I found a 10-row pattern for a "Knecklace" that I am now knitting up with the left over project yarn and giving to receipients of my knitted items. This will be a casual but nice keepsake for her that directly relates to her wedding. I started giving the knecklaces with my sister-in-law's shawl and she loved that she was getting a "2-for" gift!

Bringing socks and my scarf exchange project along on vacation. Planning on hours at the natural hot springs... sitting in the shade with my fair Irish skin... and blissfully knitting. Planning on hitting a few fiber related shops... especially in Taos and Espinola, New Mexico.

This is a beautiful colourway and I love the little pearls to give it some weight. I hope the bride really enjoys this gift and has a wonderful wedding day.

IMPRESSIVE! And tons of time to spare.... (I have finished some shawls between the hotel and the church on the way to the wedding - and once finished the bind-off in the parking lot of the reception hall.)

BTW = we want to see photos of it ON her.....for the full effect.

is that the pattern where you yarn over, knit three, then pass the third stitch over the last two? i just saw something like that in a scarf that looked pretty cool.

*clears throat*

...but, of course, nowhere near as cool as your shawl, boss.

I... I can't see it! Where did it go!? It's almost like its CAMOUFLAGED or something....
