Qiviut

scubasinger's picture

I'm now a complete yarn snob. I was on a cruise last week in Alaska and succumbed to the allure of two 1 oz. balls of qiviut...at $93 per ball!!!

But OMG...it is SO SOFT!!!! It's a dark forest green and I'm already knitting it up into a scarf!! (And I just got back yesterday!!!) Can't wait for winter 'til I can wear the damned thing.

A cruise and qiviut, I'm so jealous! Can't wait to see your scarf.

You're not a snob... you just have an appreciation for the finer things that life has to offer. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

A couple of years back I was able to avoid the call of Qiviut, but succumbed to Camel. Made myself a ribbed cable scarf.

OMG I've always wanted to try Qiviut.
Have a brother in N. Pole who said he'd get me some, still waiting.....

I've been thinking of purchasing some, and found a place in Quebec that sells it for $47/ball...but I'm not sure how much yarn is in it. Their qiviut is only available during the migration (June), and then as long as their supply of it lasts, so you might have to wait until next year to buy from them. If you want, I can send along the name/address of the place. They also have a qiviut/merino blend which is much less expensive, but is also quite nice.
