2009 Special Olympics Scarf Project

This is a scarf I am making for the Special Olpymics 2009 Scarf Project .
They are shooting for 5000 scarfs by January 15, 2009. According to the guidelines it has to be made from Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in 0885 Delft Blue and 0311 White, but you can use any pattern you like with dimensions of approx 4 1/2 in x 50 in long.
Being a card carrying yarn snob, I really don't like this yarn but being such a worthwhile cause, I will survive.

There is also a Ravelry Group.

I like the colours and the stitch. What stitch are you using?

Knit like the wind!

Thank-you, it is just a simple slip stitch rib doing 2 rows of each color and using size US 11 (8.0mm) needles.
Here is a Link to the pattern. I used the same pattern for the MWK scarf exchange.

I love your comment about the snobbishness in you!! However, I expect every yarn has a place in the world. I just don't like the feel of it when I am knitting with it. Have tried a couple projects but just gave it up. The stitch pattern you are using is very beautiful. Is it a mock herringbone using slipped stitches? Like Jessie, I really like the combination of colours as well.

Thanks for posting about this scarf project. Yes, the yarn is terrible as yarns go -- but it's perfect for this project: inexpensive so many can contribute easily, uniform so all 5,000 scarfs will be similar, and indestructible! I braved a trip to Walmart and bought two big skeins -- and they are now circulating around my knitting group. We hope to have several scarfs to send in December. -John
