proposed lace pattern....

hey guys. i know there are many of you here who knit lace, and i'm wondering if there's a way i can get knit a lace pattern that'll give me vertical columns in this style:

*yarn over eyelet, 1 knit stich,*
(repeating between *s, and maybe some type of 1-2 stitch border?)

Vedrtical VERTICAL columns are tricky.

The closest I know to a true vertical is the filet knitting technique - which is a three row repeat.

row a) YO, k2tog
row b) pul1 the decrease, YO, slip the previous YO purlwise - this will give you two parallel strands of yarn over the needle
row c) knit 2

the next triplet you have to reverse everything:
row a2) p2tog, YO
row b2) YO, slip yo purlwise, knit1
row c2) purl 2

There are ways to get vertical columns - but normally with PAIRS of eyelets....

This pattern should work. I have not tried to stitch it, but the numbers work.

RS) k2, *yo,k2*, end on k2
WS) k, k2tog, *k2,k2tog* end with k2

That should work, yes. as long as you don't mind the 2 (or more) knits between YO's. It doesn't work for single stitch dividers - and if you go to alternating the single stich between yo's with more, then you are back to paired eyelets ....
