New member and new at this hobby.

Hi everybody ! I'm from the uk and just going out to look for a book on the subject of knitting. I just don't know where to start. I hope it is a hobby I can understand LOL. I would like to make jumpers but I'm guessing I wont be able to just jump in on that as a first project! I'm glad i found this site too, I thought I was the only one who had an interest in this....I dare not tell anyone though!

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to Men Who Knit. I hope you get a lot out of this site. For some pointers of resources in the UK, good on-line yarn stores here include:

  • Get Knitted in Bristol, for great range of yarns and good range of equipment
  • Angel Yarns for a big selection of yarns
  • I Knit London, more unusual yarns and a community atmosphere at the shop. This year they organised a great exhibition in London which was incredibly well attended.
  • MCA Direct for a range of the most popular yarns used in the UK
  • Texere Yarns for a very wide range of yarn at good prices

Hope that this is helpful and look forward to your future posts.

Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy the site and the knitting.

Have been knitting for years. I knit continually then will try another craft, but will return to the needles.

There is a yarn shop on your doorstep which stocks Rowan yarns. Yarns of Lancashire Ltd., Unit 15, Marsh Mill Village, Fleetwood Road, FY5. Most yarn stores will give you some good advice and assistance if you just pluck up the courage and ask. Good luck, and look forward to seeing your first finished project.
PS: If you can't get much help in the yarn shop you will certainly get it here.

Welocme to MWK! Don't be surprised, you may be knitting yourself that jumper sooner then you think. Seedms like just the other day Mason was bewailing his irregular stitches on his garter stitch scarf - and he's on his second, (or is it third?)

There are a good percentage of guys on board here that have started recently enough that memory of learning hasn't faded. Don't be afraid to ask questions, or ask for explanations; or to b*tch about something going wrong.....we've all been there.

MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation
