Mildly frustrated (but I'll get over it) - edited

Been knitting a lot on my "Random-Ass Afghan" (working title) and am happy to report I'm steadily approaching the halfway mark (only 6" more and I'm there). This, despite my horrendous math skills that have forced me to continue purchasing extra skeins of just about every yarn I've used. LOL What I'm mildly frustrated about is that I can never seem to find any one yarn store OR website that sells all the yarn I'm looking for.

And for all the yarn that was purchased for me (i.e., Jo Sharp's Silkroad DK Tweed, Noro Iro, Patons Australia Inca, etc...), none of my LYSs ever have them in stock and half aren't even orderable for them for whatever reason(s).

So I've been having to make multiple purchases online at different sites, which only sucks in that I end up paying for shipping for every single skein. I've looked at every yarn site I can find and have even done some searching on eBay and Etsy and other similar websites and can't find anyone with more than one of the yarns I'm looking for (...if anyone has them at all).

Oh well. This afghan is already going to be outrageously expensive when all is said and done, so I might as well just suck it up and pay for it!

On the upside, it's looking fan-fucking-tastic. I'm so grateful I have the job I do (tech support) because it allows me to sit there and knit allll dayyyy long while I basically troubleshoot the same problems over and over again. I can basically do my job with my eyes closed, and I LOVE it. Ha! My cubicle is a window seat, so it gets really cold by where I sit, and it's soooo nice to have my 24" partially-finished afghan draped over my lap as I knit on it.

As much as others have said knitting an entire afghan in one piece is a burn-out, I couldn't be more energized by it. I'm not sure if it's the multitude of colors, the pattern, or just the ability to see it grow so much and watch it morph into something so extensive. Whatever it is, I wish I could focus even more on knitting it than I already am.

I had a training at work the other day and asked the trainer if I could bring my knitting in with me. She told me to go for it, so I sat there and knit the entire time...and I was still one of the most involved in the class. Ha!

Now if I could just type and knit at the same time....

[edit] - The one website I can find that has Noro Iro Color #41 in stock is wanting to charge me over $11 in shipping?!?!?!?!?! And they're in Texas! WTF...

Lucky you, being able to knit at the office! I'm an afghan kinda guy myself. When do we get to see pics?

Probably not until I'm done. LOL I think about taking photos and then I can't seem to find a spot to stop knitting and actually take them. Heh.

I love knitting afghans and find the repetition calming. Looking forward to seeing pics when it's done!

I'd like to see a picture of it too.
I totally always knit at least for a while at work, and also in class all the time. I do have an afghan that is a little less than halfway done, and I stopped working on it like...almost a year ago. I'll pick it back up eventually, though, because I really like it.

Hi a knitter who is as hooked as I am lol. I get speaking books from the Library as I am nearly as addicted to reading as I am to knitting!!!!!! As to your problem with LYS's, check this site out and if it is of any help I will send you the yarn as this is the place I work and you can just pay me the postage that is on the package you recieve,, it is in Canada and they take email orders. We ship to the USA but it is expensive and the store just charges what the postage is. Anyway check it out and let me know if I can be of any help.

Good to see you back on-line. So, it is the afghan that has been possessing you! Luck you to be able to knit at work! btw I have turned out a couple of YugiDean hats to roaring approval. One for my nephew's gf and another for a friend who was visiting from Havana and freezing, even indoors! I'll try to post some pics in a bit Cheers! - Phil

Compared to the squirrel this is a piece of cake. No sweat. I sympathize with the "horrid math skills" - I just reworked a pattern four times because I kept making the same dumb mistake in addition. O plus two = 4, right?

MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation

Depends on whether you're using Roman or Arabic numerals.
