Simple Buttonhole -- HELP!?

Guys,

Better to cast off, leaving the yarn on the left and then immediately cast on?

or

Better to cast off, knit to the end of the row, then backwards loop cast on?

Other methods?

Just making a simple neck warmer and want to put a buttonhole or two in it near the end...

Thanks!

I was never very satisfied with the look of knitted buttonholes, so I did some experimenting and wrote up the results along with a pattern for how I do it on my blog:

Cast off, turn the work and cable cast on.

I like the look of the button hole in the attached link. It takes a bit of practice, but looks very nice. Let's see if I can add a hyperlink....
