I've now finished my first "lace-type" project, the Matthew Shepard Seaman's Scarf by Myrna A.I. Stahman. Learning to knit a pattern line-by-line has been good experience and gives me courage to tackle something more complicated. My friend Robert picked the pattern and the yarn -- and is happy with his new scarf! He did not want the middle ribbing section that is typical of a seaman's scarf, so I just left it out -- knitting from the middle to one end and then, picking up the first stitches, knit to the other end.
