Little Giraffe

Here's my latest - a tiny little stuffed Giraffe for my partner's niece.

Found the pattern through Ravelry.

My first real serious attempt at stranded colorwork, and on a really small scale - the legs and neck were 16 stitches in the round. I'm not 100% thrilled with my stitches, there are some spots where the tension is really messed up.
It did turn out pretty darn cute, and my niece likes it.

I had this bright idea to use variegated yarn with the main color in it - with an interesting result.
It'd probably work better with fewer colors on the variegated yarn.

I used Berecco Comfort DK, which feel really nice and is machine washable.
Knit on size 4 DPN's.

I did have a problem with the gauge - I didn't get anywhere near the suggested gauge on the label.
I said something like 6 stitches/inch on size 6 needles, and I couldn't even get close to that on 8's!
Is this a common problem? Is it typical of Berecco?
Is it just me?

Love him! My daughter (3 yrs old) would go absolutely crazy for one... I've never made an animal, maybe it's time to give it a try!

Grace and peace,

It was quite easy, and quick.
Gauge isn't important - different gauge just results in a different size giraffe.

Here's the pattern:

That's adorable. I've never used berroco but, 6 sts per inch is normal for a DK weight yarn, you must knit very tightly.

Too cute! I think you did a great job! I've crocheted animals for my nieces and nephew, but I've yet to try knitting one. i think I want to the the Deady Bear in Son of Stitch n Bitch. I have a morbid fascination with it and my oldest niece would love it (we have similar sick senses of humor). Thanks for the inspiration!

Love it - how cute. I've a friend who absolutely loves giraffe. Saying that I have yet to knit anything in more than one colour at a time. I'm sure it isn't that easy...
