Antiques Afghan

My grandmother made this for me before she passed. She wrote all of the patterns but they have since been lost. I hope to recreate them as I get time so I can make this afghan for myself.

Absolutely beautiful! Amazing detail, especially in just black and white.

Lucky you to have had such a talented gran. Where did she grow up? In what year was she born? Wondering if the designs were inspired by her life. Good luck with replicating it.

She was born in 1923 and grew up and lived her entire life in West Virginia. A lot of the stuff in the afghan she had in her house.

She drew all the patterns with a pencil and graph paper. When she died one of her kids got them, but I'm pretty sure they have since been lost.

That really is horrible that they are most likely lost. I hope you get them all charted out though. It is fantastic.

What a beautiful afghan/quilt. Good luck recreating it. Should be an interesting challenge and I'm sure doing it will bring back many fond memories of your grandmother.

Another "YOWZA" comment. Especially when I realized that no two blocks are the same. What a talented wonder you wanted to take up knitting, thanks to a great role model and inspiration. Lots of luck recreating the blocks. It is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art. --Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I too want to express my appreciation for your grandmother's talent. Her afghan is beautiful. The black on white really makes the designs pop. Best of luck recreating it.

I'm just getting a look at this afgan now for the first time, and I think it's a really beautiful peace of work. I could only imagine how much time and devotion went into this piece!
