I came across the fall 2007 issue of Interweave magazine a couple of months ago now and decided I needed to immedicately make this hat! The pattern is called Locked Nest Hat. The designer, Teri Barr, was teaching a knitting class when one of her students complained that with their dreadlocks no hats were great fits for the winter! So she created one. The design is stunning due to its absolute simplicity. There is only one row of increase and one row of cable in the entire hat. The rest is knitting in the round. Felting completes it. Brilliant!
Amazingly there was someone who is currently 'in dread' working in another department at the hospital. As soon as I saw her I knew the hat belonged to her! She is a very sweet kid who was tickled pink! It looked made for her. I was so happy that the hat would be used and adored!
