Baby Surprise Jacket

So, I'm thinking about taking a stab at the "Baby Surprise Jacket." The pattern says to use 3oz of Shetland Wool. I know that many of you have done this pattern. I want to make this a little bigger than a newborn size (baby is to arrive in summer). I think the Shetland Wool will be to fine. If I go up to worsted, how much yarn do you think I will need?

I have not made this jacket but I have heard the neck comes out very small, I have a yarn gauge guide that gives approximations by the weight and number of stiches and size so not really sure what to advise.

Hi, Buck - I made this in worsted a couple of years ago and it took about 8-12 ounces for the main jacket. (I added a hood so my guess may not be exactly correct.) The size was just about right for a youngster that would be 6 months to a year. (Maybe older.) I didn't think the neck was that small but I sure enjoyed knitting it up. In worsted, it would make a nice light overgarment. Have fun with it. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
