Jason November 24 1978 - July 4 2009

Dear all,

At 10.03 am this morning Jason passed on, thankfully he did so in the comfort of his own home, he had been spending the past days in hospital, though not unexpected to me it came quite sudden.

I want to thank you all for your thoughts, kind words, and e-mails, they have been a great comfort.

Oh Jonathan...my thoughts are with you. Jason's youth and talents make his passing impossible to comprehend! What a terrible loss, especially for you and those who loved Jason. May the passage of time soften your loss.

Take good care,
In comfort,

Words cannot express how deeply sadden I am. I am so sorry for your loss. We have lost a wonderful talented man on our web site. I always enjoyed seeing his posts on Men Who Knit. I'm sure he's in a better place probably teaching a knitting class somewhere.

May angels lead you into Paradise;
may the martyrs receive you at your coming
and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem.
May a choir of angels receive you,
and with Lazarus, who once was poor,
may you have eternal rest.

I am glad that we have been present,
for Jason, I hope for hope Jonathan, and for each other during this time. I am glad that we have been able to share this part of Jason's journey. I believe that it did make a difference for Jason, and think that it has for us too.
Jonathan my prayers continue for you and for Jason's family. Rest gently now, Jason. Shalom

Jonathan - this news is breaking our hearts - but here's what we must remember - we were lucky enough to get to know Jason through MenWhoKnit - and lucky to get to meet you - to be witnesses to his story of not only strength and courage but creativity and love. The battle lost is a difficult realization pointing us once again to the very important lesson... which was put into words by my Grandmother years and years ago in a letter... here's what she said:

"Remember that each new day is a fresh start for us all. Yesterday with its disappointments and failures is behind us -- irrevocably gone. Tomorrow, with whatever promises it may bring is beyond the door of the future. All any of us has is today... so make the most of each today, and the tomorrows will take care of themselves."

The quote, coupled with the luck we had in knowing Jason reminds me once again that life is fleeting. This loss is hard to hear but was not unexpected. I hope, Jonathan, that you have someone to help you through this time - please know... whatever we can do to help - we're here to do it. You're part of our family, now...

thank you for everything you did to help keep us updated on our friend, and for sharing this difficult news with us. Once the shock of his passing settles in, I'm sure the comfort of knowing he's no longer in pain will help take its place.

Jason has been in my thoughts many times lately. Though his passing was expected, it doesn't make it in any way less heartbreaking or easy to accept. In many way, this world is a better place because of what Jason contributed and shared with so many people. And, in many ways that we at MWK will never fully realize, you gave yourself to Jason to make his world a better place. Please know that you have a lot of support available here at MWK, and I'm sure I speak for many of the guys, that we hope that you will stay a part of this group, and keep in touch. Jason did something that no one has done before here; bring people together from all over the world in a special way, and made us realize that we have much in common. You will be in my prayers, as will Jason and his family.

Today, instead of going up to Portland and being with my friends whom I have not seen in a good while, I spent some of the day at work when I did not really need to. Came home, and was not as kind to my family as I could have been. I hauled hay out of the field, and sat in my room playing stupid computer games. Instead of being happy for the great things I have, I called a friend and complained about my day and the long hours at work. Why do I do this, why am I not happy for myself and others for the wonders we have around us? Loosing Jason, even though we knew it was coming, reminds me that I need to actually live my life. My life could change for the worse tomorrow, and I would not be able to get back the time I lost to all these stupid things. So, a new goal from my favorite musical: No day but today. Jason will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear that Jason is gone, though we knew it was going to happen, it is still a shock. I am so thankful that I got to meet him here through MWK and enjoy his triumphs as well as his illness. He was so fortunate to have you there to help and support him. He will be missed. There aren't words that can help much, but want you to know that you are in my prayers and thoughts.

I am sure He and God are knitting up a storm in Heaven.... Oh, such beautiful patterns they are making, and I am sure with amazing creativity. I am sure one day, we will be up there with him with lots of hand knit sweaters and halo warmers... My condolences to you and you friends/family...

I was glad to have known Jason through this community and now Jonathon...Jason will be missed here.

Thank you for letting us know that Jason is no longer in pain. He will be missed so much. His whit and skilful ability will live on in our memories. The times he made us laugh will not be forgotten. I remember how he posted once about not being able to follow a simple pattern in a Stitch N Bitch book and the rest of MWK being truly amazed; after all we had seen his amazing ski jumpers and Fair-Isle work. His speed at knitting and generosity with the finished items was truly amazing.
But most of all, thank you Jonathan for looking after Jason and giving him the love and care he needed in his final months.

TomH's picture

Jonathan, my heart is with you. May you find comfort in all your wonderful memories. And may those same wonderful memories carry you through the next hours, days, weeks and months. Jason was an amazing and talented person. All he wished for you is your happiness. Carry out his wishes.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! We will all miss Jason very much but a little bit of his courage and spirit will be with all of us forever. You are such a wonderful friend, thank you for everything you've done for him!

While we all knew this day was coming, it happened all too soon. Jason touched the hearts of this entire community and I know we all mourn his loss. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers, knowing that he has moved on, no longer suffering from the illness which took him from us. Our maestro is in heaven, conducting the heavenly orchestra. I will always remember him fondly. Rest peacefully sweet boy... one day we will all be with you in that great knitting circle up above...

Thank you for letting us know, Jonathan. My heartfelt best wishes to you and all of Jason's survivors. I take comfort - as I have shared with many over the years - in knowing that Love is eternal and binds all of us together through Eternity, regardless of whichever physical plane of existence we are on. In that way, we are never truly apart. I hope you can find comfort in this thought also. Peace and Blessings to you, Jason, and us all. - Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I just got back from a short vacation and, of course, logged in to see this very late.

Thank you so much, Jonathan...

He's at peace, now.

Jonathan - my thoughts are with you and the rest of Jason's loved ones. I knew this day would come, but it still took me by surprise. As long as we keep him in our hearts he will always be with us. He's now without pain and at rest. He left the world a better place having been in it.

How sad to be taken so young. Thanks Jonathon for letting us know.

Thank you so much for keeping us all informed and for the love (sometimes even Tough Love) you gave to Jason!

I am filled with sadness at Jason's sickness and death. As a gay man "of a certain age" I have had more than one address book full of friends need to be replaced at the passing of it's occupants. There is something so unsettling at seeing someone die, as so many others have, so young and talented.

I shall remember Jason fondly... his perky good looks and witty sense of humor... his awesome talent with Scandinavian sweaters and directing music... and for him introducing us to you, Jonathan!

Could you please let us know what, if any, services are being planned? Thanks.

There is nothing to say that hasn't already been said. The news is very upsetting. He touched a lot of people here on MWK that didn't even know him. I can't even being to imagine the grief felt by those who did actually know him.

I am very sad to hear the news of Jason's passing. I am thankful for all the love and support that you Jonathan have given to Jason. Be it known that if you need anything at all we are all here to help in any way that we can. I am sorry I have gotten this news so late, I have been out of town.
All my love...
