funeral services

I decided to respond to the question about the funeral services for Jason in a seperate blog entry.

Tomorow (Wednesday July 8th) there will be a commemorative service for Jason in a concerthall in Amsterdam, there will be a performance of Mahler's 8th symphony (the symphony of a thousand) and some of Jason's favourite music will be performed - Last movement of 1st symphony by Langgaard
- First movement of 1st symphony by Stenhammar
- Tintagel by Bax
- La Folia by Corelli
- Violin Concerto no 1 by Korngold
There will also be some readings and some personal video material of Jason shown.

The funeral service and cremation will take place on Thursday July 9th at 3 pm local time, I never knew Jason knew so many people in personal as well as professional live and that he has touched so many lives, we are expecting about 700 people to attend the funeral service including some pretty famous people.

The funeral service was carefully orchestrated by Jason himself, he has planned everything from the opening music (Now that the sun hath veiled his light by Purcell) to the closing hymn (Abide with me) he has asked everyone that if they do want to bring flowers they bring only white flowers, he has also instructed that noone is alowed to wear black, from his point of view we have to celebrate his transition to the next stage in life, and not mourn his death.

I myself am doing well, it's when everyone leaves and I am once again alone that I have difficulty getting to grips with this loss (I may just as well admit now that I was in love with Jason, though he was always honest that he wasn't in love with me) But I know that I will manage and that life will go on for me as it does for everyone who has lost a loved one.

sorry again for your loss. it is a process. allow it to roll out as it needs to and allow yourself to ask for and receive support.

Blessings on you. Even if Jason wasn't "in love" with you, he surely loved you as a dear friend as well as caregiver. I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow. Take care - Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Love is never wasted; it may not return immediately, but it will come back to you in some form, at some time.

As we are in the same time zone at 4 pm on Thursday I will be thinking of you and all the people gathered to celebrate Jason's life. This difficult time will pass, and as MMario said, love is never wasted. I send you lots of hugs, as I am sure everyone here does.

Dear Jonathan, l feel so bad for you to have loved so deeply but how cruel to have it taken from you. Being in Canada, our time will be different but tomorrow I will go to the church and light two candles. One for each of you. If you need us we are always here

The two of you will be in my thoughts on Wednesday and Thursday - and many other days in the future too, of course, just like you have been the past few months.

The service sounds really beautiful. I completely agree with Jason, our passing from this life is just a transition to our next adventure. It should be celebrated.

That's a lovely selection of music and I'm glad his services are being orchestrated according to his wishes. You're both in my thoughts, Jonathan. Keep on loving!

I love that he asked for only white flowers, no black clothing and selected every note of the arrangements - it makes me smile - and while it's a sad time, I love that he wanted it done "a certain way" - it's sort of what I imagine my funeral to be like...

here's an odd fact about me (strange maybe) but I do, from time to time, go through my ipod and add songs to a playlist called "funeral music" - it's compiled of songs that I think might work for my own funeral...

OK, I'm odd.

Thank you, Jonathan - for sharing and being so wonderful. We're all here for you - and we're all an email away... so please, try your best never to feel alone.

Mnjack's picture thoughts & prayers are with today and tomorrow and all through the struggle you will have to move on. Jason was so fortunate to have you there.

Thank you so much, Jonathan.

I'm all the way over here in Portland, Maine, but, I'll wear white for him, and there's all sorts of white flowers around here, pure and clean and very strong growing, especially after all of the rain that we've had here. I'll take a picture and hold it with me on my camera all day long. I can look at it now and then all day and remember him.

...and only love -- of the deepest kind -- could have carried you on your path with him. I know you loved him...dearly. I think we all knew. You're so very good...I only hope the best for you.

Oddly enough - it appears that my white rose bush will open it's first blossom tomorrow.

As everyone else has said it best, just know I carry you and Jason in my heart.

MMario's picture

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings,
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea—
Come, Friend of knitters, and thus bide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me

If I remember correctly you came to us by way of Jason. I truelly hope you continue to keep in contact. I didn't know Jason well but he seemed very sweet. And I for one think it would be a shame for us to loose not only Jason but you also. Please keep in contact. *hugs* Peace be yours.

Jonathan... I am truly sorry that I have heard this all after the fact. I am saddened that I wasn't with you in thought on the day of the services, but you and Jason have never been far from my mind or heart. As Mario has said, Love is never wasted! Know that you are LOVED and we are all here for you anytime!
