My First Blog Entry

Hi everyone! My name's Joe. I know I've been reading and commenting on posts for a little while now, but I decided that I should try to share some of my own work and submitting posts of my own =)

I think I should start by saying a little bit about myself. I'm a college student studying Musical Theatre and Interpreting for the Deaf, and somehow in my spare time managed to pick up knitting. My grandmother taught me how to knit and purl about a year-and-a-half ago, and it's just been crazy since then learning to make scarves and hats, and all kinds of crazy things, and now I'm finally getting better at following patterns, etc.

Some projects I'm working on now include a pair of gloves for my brother for Christmas (my first pair of gloves, actually, which has been both exciting and frustrating), a cable knit scarf for my brother-in-law (which has been exciting and surprisingly easy), and lace doily for my grandmother based on the Stor Lysedug pattern that TomH so generously posted on this website =) I'm including a couple pictures of the lace, which I've currently got on a circular, so it was hard to take good pictures. I'm using a little bit heavier yarn than I think is typical, but since it's my first lace project I'm a little unsure. At the very least, I'm happy with the way it looks, which is all that matters.

Anyway, I want to say thank you for welcoming me to this website. I've enjoyed reading all of your posts and slowly getting to know those of you that I've had brief transactions with, and I look forward to meeting/getting to know all of you. Hope all is well!

Nice doily - I would say you are a natural at lace. It's fun isn't it. Welcome to MWK, I can't wait to see more of your work.

Hi, Joe - From another! Welcome. Nice doily pattern. Don't worry about too thick yarn...it will make a nice table mat. Your work is very smooth and even and I look forward to seeing more photos. I wish I had a digital camera, allowing me to post photos. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Hi Joe!

You mastered the circular start for the doily - that's far from beginning - you must be a natural. It looks great and I can't wait to see more!
