Mom and I were talking on the phone the other day.
She asked me if I ever made anything from the fleece of Bartholomew the Ram. You see, I had a ram when I was in 4-H and FFA that would win at the State Fair. He had several champion corriedale fleeces with one fleece being the Reserve Champion of the fair. Funny, I also showed him in the ram class and that judge placed him lower because of his fleece. Yes, the same exact year he produced the Reserve Champion fleece.
Anyway, mom asked if I had made anything of this fleece. I said, no, you did mom; a lovely blanket that you crocheted. She made it when I was in college and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Right now, it resides in a chest with all my other things I wish to keep safe from injury or use. There are two blankets my Granny made, a pair of yellow swim trunks from when I was about 2 (they are stylish now… ) and this blanket. I think I have a few other things in this chest. Anyway, she suggested that I recycle the yarn. I my head I flipped out just a wee bit. Why on earth I would I do that? Besides, the blanket felted a bit one time I washed it. (I’m still upset over it. It just shrunk an inch or two… but still… sigh…). Anyway, it will remain as my mom made it.
We did discuss taking some wool from some of her lambs and having it spun into yarn and then I could create something. I am thinking it wouldn’t be cheap, but then it would be something that I could barter with. I’ll give you 4 fleeces, send me these two back or something. I will decide next spring when they are sheared. I think she should also get a brown sheep, or a gray one. Just because I want the wool off of it. I think it would look cool. But that is me… I will ponder this stuff.
