Leg Amputation Sock

Hello MLK,
I have a friend who, because of serious infections resulting from heart bypass surgery in January that never healed, underwent leg amputation above the knee yesterday. He's 81 years old and he's a wonderful person. I thought I'd make him what is called a stump sock...yes it sounds crass, but he's okay with it. He won't ever have a prosthesis because of his age, overall health, and his f*cked up insurance company who dropped him, so now he is a ward of the State of Florida as a Medicaid patient.

Mum's Cardigan

Well I made this cardigan for my mum on my "new" Passap DM80 machine. It is not really new but secondhand. Passap machines haven't been made for over 20 years. I brought it off a old lady who no longer had the need for it.

Being a double bed machine it can do ribbing without any hand manipulation so quicker to knit. Also can do a lot of patterns. It also does k:k stitch which is knit stitch on both sides of garment ( no purl side).

Time sure flies....

I can't believe it's been this long since I've visited. I like what you guys have done to the place. Finally realized that I've been way to busy and it's time to slow down and pick up those needles once again. I wonder if I still remember to turn a heel. Heck, I'm wondering if I remember how to cast on. Anyway, good to be back.

Recent work

It's been a very long time since I posted to MWK, although I have stopped by occasionally to see what all the guys have been up to. However, I see others are not posting either! I have a story to tell you about repurposing some yarn.

How do you handle being "odd man out" ?

How do you handle being "odd man out" because of the hobby (knit/crochet) that you enjoy so much ?? I really enjoy crochet and I read books for fun. These are not typical "masculine" activities. I love both of these hobbies, but I have to enjoy crochet pretty much as a loner because there are so few of us. I am a member of a local chapter of CGOA where I am the only male member. I really enjoy the group, but would like to find or start a men's group in Lake Couny, IL

Go where the yarn takes you.

Mike
