Help!

Hi!  I'm a new(ish) knitter working on my first big project.  I've done a lot of toques, scarves, and mittens and am now starting my first sweater.  And by starting I mean I bought all the wool and everything and now I can't start.

The pattern says to cast on 35 sts using the long-tail cast-on method (which I think is how I was taught anyway, so that's fine)  but then it says to work triple yarn-over cast-on for 40 more stitches.  And then later to drop certain yarn-overs.

I am confused!  How do I do a triple yarn-over and then how do I drop the yos?

Can anyone help me?

Illumination

Yesterday I was sitting in the sun, knitting away at a sock, and it occured to me just how much I loved the colors in the wool.  I usually knit in the evening, so had never seen the colors so clearly.  Since enjoying the wool is so much of the joy in knitting, I realized I have to get better lighting for my evening knitting.  Any suggestions for good light sources?  A lot of little task lights that I see are halogen--I love the quality of the light, but it's too hot.   What do you all use to see your knitting after the sun has set?

Magic Loop

I've spent the day exploring the use of the 'Magic Loop'.  I've had no problem getting used to the technique - far from it - the technique is very easy but it is far from comfortable.  I'll definately stick with double point needles - they seem to me by far the easier to use. I know that some of you chaps enthuse about the Magic Loop but is anyone as dissatisfied with it as I am?
